GEOGRAPHICAL DISTRIBUTION:

Bubo bubo is distributed throughout India, Pakistan and Burma.

CHARACTERS:

i) Bubo bubo is commonly known as the Great-horned owl.

ii) It is a large, heavy and robust bird, measuring up to 60cm in length.

iii) The colour is dark brown streaked and mottled with towny buff and black.

iv) Head is large and bears two conspicuous black ear-tufts or hams.

v) The eyes are large, round, yellow and directed forwards.

vi) The legs are fully feathered.

vii) Food consists mainly of small mammals, birds etc.

viii) It is nocturnal but it is frequently seen on the move during the day.

ECONOMIC IMPORTANCE:

i) Maintains a constant check on the rodents and other destructive vermin.
