CHARACTERS:
i) Axolotl is the larva of Ambystoma tigrinum
ii) It possesses three pairs of external gill’s and a tail having a caudal fin.
iii) Axolotl larvae exhibit the phenomena of neoteny.
iv) If the environmental conditions are changed, it is capable of metamorphosing.
v) Metamorphosis in Axolotl is included by injecting thyroid extract by transferring to water with a higher iodine content.
vi) During metamorphosis the gills and tail fin are lost.
