GEOGRAPHICAL DISTRIBUTION:
Calotes versicolor is found in India, Malaya, Afghanistan and southern China.
CHARACTERS:
i) Calotes versicolor is commonly known as garden lizard or girgit.
ii) It may reach a length of up to 35cm.
iii) The body is covered with imbricate epidermal horny Scales.
iv) A crest of sharp spines is present on the dorsal surface of the neck and back.
v) Body divisible into head, trunk and tail.
vi) Tail is extremely long and cylindrical and doesn’t break.
vii) Gular sac is absent.
viii) Oviparous, Insectivorous.
ECONOMIC IMPORTANCE:
• They are crop pests, agricultural pests or injurious to trees.
