GEOGRAPHICAL DISTRIBUTION:

Bungarus is found in South Eastern Asia, India, Malaya.

CHARACTERS:

i) Bungarus is commonly called krait.

ii) Body is elongated and slender, measuring about 1 meter in length.

iii) The colour of the body is steel-blue with narrow cross bars or white specks dorsally.

iv) Head with normal shields and is not differentiated from neck.

v) Eyes are moderate size with narrow pupils.

vi) It is nocturnal, oviparous, carnivorous.

vii) The scales are smooth.

viii) It is poisonous and venom is neurotoxic.

ix) Loreals are absent.

ECONOMIC IMPORTANCE:

i) It is poisonous and causes the death of humans.

ii) Skin is commercially important for leather.
