GEOGRAPHICAL DISTRIBUTION:

Necturus is found in North America and Yugoslavia.

CHARACTERS:

i) Necturus is commonly known as mud-puppy.

ii) Body is elongated, measuring from 30-42 cm in length.

iii) Tail is long and bears the caudal fin.

iv) Eyes are lidless.

v) Skull largely cartilaginous.

vi) Musculature lanal.

vii) Larval circulatory system.

viii) Lateral line Organs are present.

ix) Permanently aquatic.

x) Lungs are present.

ECONOMIC IMPORTANCE:

– Used in the laboratory for embryological study.
