GEOGRAPHICAL DISTRIBUTION:

Columba livia is distributed throughout India; Pakistan, Ceylon and Burma.

CHARACTERS:

i) Columba is commonly known as Blue rock pigeon.

ii) It is a familiar slaty-gicy bird with glistening metallic green, purple & magenta sheen on thence.

iii) Two dark bars on wings and a band across the end of the tail.

iv)  It measures about 34 cm or more.

v) Both sexes are alike.

vi) Food chiefly comprises cereals, pulses and ground nuts, etc.

vii) The nest is a sketchy pad of twigs and straw.

ECONOMIC IMPORTANCE:

i) It is eaten by humans.
