APPARATUS REQUIRED:
1) Conical flask
2) Funnel
3) Beaker
4) Testtube
5) Water Bath
6) Filter paper etc.
CHEMICAL REQUIRED:
1) Glucose
2)Phenyl hydrazine
3) Glacial Acetic acid
THEORY:
Glucosazone can be prepared from glucose by treating it with phenyl hydrazine in presence of heat as below:
PROCEDURE:
Initially the solution was made by mixing 5 gm glucose & 12 ml water in a conical flask, Added a solution of 6 ml of Phenyl hydrazine & 6 ml glacial acetic acid and heated the solution on a water bath for about 45 minutes. Again allowed to cool in a cold water bath then appeared some yellowish ppt, the solution was filtered & washed with cold H₂0 finally recrystallized in spirit & identified the melting point of yellow crystal of glucosazone.
RESULT:
Appearance: Yellow crystal
Melting point: 208°c
CONCLUSION:
Hence, the preparation of glucosazone by the glucose was done in the lab.
PRECAUTION:
1) All the apparatus should be washed & cleaned before the experiment.
2) Heating & Cooling phenomenon should be done carefully.
3) Melting point should be determined accurately.
