REQUIRED
Test tube shovel, Colour chart, pH electrode, BDH Universal indicator, distilled water, litmus paper.
THEORY
Soils are derived from parent rocks by the process called weathering. In the weathering process, rocks are disintegrated and decomposed into smaller pieces by physical, chemical and biological agencies. Soil. Maybe acidity and basicity. Acidity of soil due to predominance of H+ ions and OH- ions. Soils with a pH value below 7 are acidic soil and pH value above 8 are basic soil.
PROCEDURE
10 gm of soil was taken in a test tube and 20 ml distilled water was added and shaken for 15 min. After then tested by electrode or litmus paper, and compared the chart with colour.
OBSERVATION TABLE
S.N. | Soil Sample | PH value | Soil type |
1. | Sample A | 5.5 | Acidic |
2. | Sample B | 4.5 | Acidic |
3. | Sample C | 6.5 | Acidic |
RESULT
The PH value of given soil samples are 5.5, 4.5, 6.5.
CONCLUSION
Hence, the soil type of the given soil sample is acidic.
