Distribution:-
Lepisma is commonly known as Silver Fish.
Habit and Habitat:-
Lepisma is commonly found in damp, cool places and in books.
General characters:-
1) Lepisma is commonly known as silver fish.
2) Body is flattened and covered with silvery scales.
3) Head bears a pair of many segmented antennae and a pair of ocelli.
4) Mouth parts biting and chewing type.
5) Thorax bears three pairs of legs but is devoid of wings.
6) Abdomen elven segmented with a pair of long jointed cerci and median caudal filament.
7) Development directly without metamorphosis.
Economic Importance:-
Silverfish are generally considered nuisance pests. They have no effect on human health. They usually do relatively little damage, but will feed on paper, book bindings, wallpaper, rayon drapes, starched cotton, lines and silk.
