Comments on Ammonite

i) Ammonites are an extinct group of marine invertebrates belonging to subclass Ammonoidea of class Cephalopoda.

ii) Ammonites are predatory, squid-like creature that lived inside coiled shells.

iii) They had sharp beak like jaws inside a ring of tentacles that could be extended from their shell to capture prey like small fishes and crustaceans.

iv) They first believed to have appeared around 400 million years ago and went extinct with the dinosaurs, about 65 million years ago.

v) They can be distinguished by a number of chamber called camerae present in their body inside the shell called phragmocone, cameras are separated from each other by septa.

vi) They also have a narrow tubular structure called a siphuncle.
