GEOGRAPHICAL DISTRIBUTION:
Worldwide in distribution, it inhabits fields, grassy lands, and woodlands. It is gregarious and crepuscular.
CHARACTERS:
i) Oryctolagus is commonly called rabbit.
ii) Body is divisible into head, neck, thorax, abdomen and short and bushy tail.
iii) Body fur colour is white, black, brown or spotted.
iv) Head has wide mouth with harelips, vibrissae, nostrils, eyes and large ears.
v) Forelimbs are used for burrowing and hindlimbs for leaping. Hind limbs are stronger and longer.
vi) Males have skin covered penis and females have clitoris (reduced nonfunctional penis)
ECONOMIC IMPORTANCE:
It is used as food for consumption.
